A few days back, I read an essay by Charles Lamb titled “A Bachelor’s Complaint Of The Behavior Of Married People” and thought how good it is to be single. No tensions, no worries and no pointless pretense of being happy. So, here are 10 reasons why I think one should embrace singlehood:-
The solitude would allow you to get more comfortable with yourself. Because, let’s be honest, the only person you are going to spend every single second of your life with is – you. This calls for more self-love, more self-care and more self-dependency. Being single allows you to clear your mind, set your priorities straight and work towards your goals as your time isn’t demanded by anyone.
Single women tend to be happier than their male counterparts. A research conducted by Mintel suggests that as compared to 49 percent single men, 61 percent of single women are satisfied with their being single.
Bing single enhances the likelihood of enjoying with friends and keeping in touch with siblings & family as well. A study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships has found that single people are more likely to keep in touch with friends, family, and siblings. This can lead to larger support system and much better mental health.
Let’s be honest, we all like to flirt sometimes. But, imagine being in a relationship, and trying to casually flirt with the cute barista. Let’s not even think about the aftermath. However, there are surprising health benefits to flirting, including, greater self- confidence and self-esteem. So stay single, flirt and stay healthy.
5) Life won't be stuck in reaching certain milestones
We all have seen couples fussing about buying new apartment, moving in, marriage, kids and so on. Even if they aren’t, there are certain kinds of societal expectations, which are expected to be fulfilled by them. It can lead to lot of conflicts and stress, which makes staying single a good option.
Ever wondered why every movie about self exploration starts with the protagonist breaking up with their partners? Being single gives you more time for self-reflection and understand your own desires and aspirations. You can spend time with yourself, cultivate new hobbies, learn new language, go backpacking alone in Europe and find your true purpose.
We all know how relationships can be expensive. Movies, eating out, gifts- all these can make a very big hole in your pocket. Singlehood protects you from all of these unnecessary expenses. You can build your savings and even set out for that world travel, you’ve always planned to go.
No annoying “good morning” or “good evening” messages. Or worrying about what to post on social media, so as to not annoy your partner. No unnecessary insecurities or worrying if they might not agree to the night out plan with your friends. No complaints, no demands.
Different researches have found that single people are more likely to hit gyms than their married counterparts. Men are less likely to experience heart diseases and women are less likely to take sick leaves from their workplace.
