India is progressing into the future swiftly and we are becoming or maybe have already become focused towards creating a problem-solving culture. But there is a catch, our country is so diverse that we have to accommodate various cultures to develop as one nation. As a developing country, we have major issues to deal with, like climate change, uncontrollable population growth, unemployment & a lot of other issues. Instead of focussing on the growth & things that matter, we are stuck in the orthodox issues of the past that affects our present & future. We need to seriously face certain truths that are taboo to talk about and let these issues get buried in the past!
Freedom of speech has been a distant dream for artists in this country. We see the killing of journalists & those who put their opinions forward are being sidelined by the society leaving space only for the powerful ones.
The most taboo word in our country. You can’t even say this word in public if you do people stare at you like you’ve committed murder or something. It is the most natural part of human nature to make love. Any physical relationship before marriage is also taken as a crime by society. People talk about our generation as we are destroying the Indian culture, someone needs to remind them that “Kamasutra” is a part of our heritage only!
India is a patriotic country and a free democratic state. We should be allowed to criticize the government and not be thrown into jail or lynched in public for it. Every citizen has the right to express their opinion on a limit. These anarchists who don’t take criticism in a healthy manner should understand that we can complain about the government and still love our country.
We have to give in to the expectations made by society or our families thus curbing our freedom. Reasons being patriarchy, majority rule, skewed development & acquisition of power. It’s time for us to make the world realize that every individual should be allowed to make personal choices & should be given a chance to make mistakes.
People have divided this country into Vegetarians and Non-vegetarians. Vegetarians get so judgemental and offended when they get to know someone eats non-veg as if it is blasphemy. Let’s keep an open mind and not bother about each other’s eating habits.
It is a great way to explore someone you love as a person. To see whether you fit in as a couple or not. But our orthodox society, just can’t see it. Living together with someone you love is no wrong & marriage isn’t a legal seal to it.
Despite Section 377 being nullified, the nation isn’t so open about it forcing one to make life choices what ever be the sexual orientation. Not many people are open about a progressive LGBTQ society dragging the skewed opinions.
Honour killings, patriarchy, and gender-specific violence are no new news for us. These regressive practices are indoctrinated in some parts of the country. We may need a revolution to change this, but the good thing is as the younger generation takes over, these things will be just a dark tale of the past.
Stereotyping people on their caste and creed is another form of business. Let the person decide whether one has to be an atheist or a theist & not get offended by the religious choices & practices made by an individual.
We get blinded to the other side of any conversation. People just won’t listen to the entire truth of things and whatever they fail to understand, they hate it. They never listen to the other person with calm, just wait to force their beliefs on everyone no matter how absurd, just because they think it is right.
They force us to become someone we are not. By all means, you should become what you want to, career is the next 30 years of your life. Society and relatives force us to take up the so-called safe paths. If you want to be a musician, go for it. You want to take up sports, go for it. First, they laugh at you, then they mock you, then they fight you, and then they follow you!
We have still not made peace with the fact that cat is just an animal that’s minding its own business! A number of stereotypes & superstitions haunt us that hinder the open-mindedness & growth of a number of people!
