From being the Member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly to being the President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Chairperson of the National Democratic Alliance as well as the 31st Home Minister of India, Amit Shah, the “modern-day Chanakya and master strategist” and one of the most influencing idols that the Indian Politics has ever witnessed turned 54 today. This ‘”hard-working, experienced, efficient organiser” (as PM Modi tweeted) of India has a lot to his story than any of us probably know.
Did you know that Amit Shah was a stockbroker?
Before getting into the Indian politics completely, Amit Shah did his schooling in Mehsana and moved to Ahmedabad to study biochemistry from CU Shah Science College. After graduation, he then helped his father in his PVC Pipe business. After that, he started his work as stockbroker. He has also worked in many co-operative banks in Ahmedabad.
A RSS Devotee
Amit Shah started his political career during his college days in Ahmedabad. Although he had been involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from his childhood days, he officially became a member during his graduation. In 1983, he became the leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (student wing of RSS).
Success With BJP
In 1987 (one year before Modi joined BJP), Amit Shah joined BJP and became an activist of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), BJP’s youth wing. During that time, he held many posts and rose in the BJYM hierarchy. He grabbed the attention when he served as an election campaign manager for LK Advani during 1991 Lok Sabha elections in Gandhinagar.
A Passionate Investor
Apart from leading the politics, Amit Shah is also a passionate and ardent investor. This can be proved by seeing his top investments like that of Rs 2 crore worth of shares in Reliance Industries and Rs. 1.4 crore in L&T Finance.
Ruling The Land Of Gujrat
In 1997, Amit Shah got a BJP ticket for the Gujarat Legislative Assembly (by-election) in Sarkhej. He won that election and retained his seat in 1998 too. In 2002, he contested for the Assembly Elections from Sarkhej constituency in Ahmedabad and won by the highest margin & saw victory in 2007 again!
A New Start
After his arrest in 2010, his political career collapsed drastically. But after BJP’s big win in 2014, he revived and rose again. At that time, Shah was in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP won 73 seats out of 80. This is where he was first seen as a great politician as well as an amazing strategist. Before the elections, he personally oversaw everything- from candidate selection to door-to-door campaigning. He tried to understand the reasons behind the victory of the Samajwadi Party in 2012 UP Assembly Elections and also made out why the voters were now getting dissatisfied with them. He suggested the idea of putting RSS volunteers for campaigning at the grassroots levels which later on proved to be highly beneficial for the wins.
An Inborn Leader
He has proved that he is an excellent & hardworking leader not only at the State level but also at the National level. He focussed on building Modi’s image rather than his own, thereby depicting his brilliant teamwork and leadership skills. His efforts of integrating entire India by abolishing Article 370 in the Jammu and Kashmir with the whole of India have brought the nation in one tone and under one sky. Amit Shah is to be held equally responsible for the success of the BJP as PM Modi is. Being his right hand, Amit Shah has proved that their duo and their rule can bring the tides of the much-needed change amidst our fields and lands, and that we can once again thrive to be recognized with much popularity, respect, peace and cultural diversity as before. Wishing this great leader a very Happy Birthday!
