In Indian weddings, brides don’t just shop for one function but at least for four to five ceremonies. From picking the best outfit, accessories, jewelry to other things that will fit in their trousseau bride-to-be are bombarded with a lot of options when they go for shopping. And, it is obvious to get confused & end up buying something you don’t love. So, if you want to avoid such mistakes during your wedding shopping read on ahead:
Make a note of things you already have
Firstly, you need to make a list of things (clothing, handbags, footwear, jewelry, make-up, etc) you already own so that these things can be a part of your wedding trousseau. Because, why spend extra when you already have these things.
Spend according to your budget
As an Indian bride you need to buy the right outfit, accessories, and other stuff for at least four to five wedding functions, so it’s important that you plan out an estimate of the cost, and spend accordingly.
Keep an estimate of hidden costs
Each outfit of wedding ceremonies makes you buy matching jewelry & accessories. Some dresses will make you purchase some customized dupattas & other additions as a broch, jewelry, as well. These are some of the factors of hidden costs so make sure you keep a count of it as well.
Go shopping with friends or family
When you go shopping either take your mom or your bestie as they will help you pick the right outfit & will also give their honest opinion on what suits you.
Be open to changes
Don’t be adamant that you will wear only particular colors instead be open to wearing different colors or styles. Before buying try on new silhouettes and colors that would look good on you.
Pick outfit while keeping your partner in mind
Your outfit should sync with your partner so choose your wedding dress accordingly. As a couple, you guys can wear the same color or go for a contrast!
Pick a dress according to the wedding ceremony
Keep the event of your wedding in mind before buying a dress. Like, pick something voluminous for a ceremony where you will remain standing on stage or buy something in which you can dance easily on your sangeet night.
Club Indian & Western wear
Who said that at your wedding functions you will have to wear only traditional stuff?? Pick a mix of Indian and western dresses like you can choose to wear an embellished crop or ruffled top with a skirt or dhoti.
Try different blouse designs
Ditch the regular designs and instead choose ruffled sleeves, or trendy prints to experiment with your blouse designs.
Select your dress keeping the weather in mind
Before buying any dress keep the wedding venue in your mind. If you are getting married in a closed and air-conditioned banquet then opt to wear an embellished and layered outfit. Likewise, if the wedding venue is outdoor then choose a dress according to the weather.
Check the fitting of dresses
Make sure that before you finalize your outfit after the fitting is done. Dresses of wedding function remain quite heavy and this is why they are a bit difficult to handle. So, it’s important that your dress is fit and make you feel comfortable.
Take your bridal jewelry on rent
In case you don’t have the budget to spend on your wedding jewelry or you don’t want to spend extra as you know post the wedding you will rarely wear it then save up your money by getting your bridal jewelry on rent.
Buy from the annual sale of big designers
The annual sale of some brands and big designers like Abu-Sandeep kicks off twice in a year. So, save your money and buy clothes as well as bridal lehengas from a sale.
Wear or carry appropriate lingerie while shopping
While shopping when you try different dresses make sure you are wearing the right lingerie so that you have a better picture of your complete look. You can even carry appropriate lingerie to avoid straps and bumps showing.
Do not compromise on your comfort
Last but not the least; in the midst of your entire wedding excitement don’t forget to prioritize your comfort as discomfort is surely going to reflect on your face. Happy Shopping my Bride-to-be Friends!
