With the news of suicides increasing throughout the world due to the FOMO trend, Instagram is up with the initiative to hide “like” count from posts. After hiding the “following” tab and like count in 7 countries, it is up with another social experiment. Maybe it’s a piece of great news for the worried parents of the so self-obsessed kids but may not be for the brands & influencers out there!
The testing has begun and the users who are part of the test will not be able to see the like numbers on other peoples’ posts but they will be able to see them on their post. So the issue of comparison will be sorted at least on one social platform saving many Indian lives.
We are heartbroken as it’s a great platform to be out there & project ourselves but maybe it has turned into a social platform more for influencing & flaunting than genuinely adoring your loved ones! Instagram began the “Hiding Likes” test in May in Canada, then expanded the test to Ireland, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand in July.
Vishal Shah, Instagram’s Vice President of Product said: “While the feedback from early testing has been positive, this is a fundamental change to Instagram, so we’re continuing our test to learn more from our global community.”
Though many people will be comfortable as Phew!! No More Comparisons! And actually do the number of likes really matters on your influencer posts? Maybe Yes! Maybe No! What’s your take?
