From Social Empowerment through Music, Fintech For Social Good, Mobility, Healthcare to Reimagining Education, The Design, Technology & Social Innovation Workshop 2020 provides an opportunity for creative exploration of ideas through the implementation of design & technology under guidance of experts.
Drawing in experts from various domains are the speakers like Mr. Milind Tambe- Director, Google for Social Good; Mr. Manohar Paluri- Director, Facebook, AI; Mr. Sudhindra Venkatesh- CDO, IBM India; Ms. Ulrike Reinhard- Publisher, Author & Futurist amongst others, MIT India Initiative is a not for profit workshop from the students & alumni of the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology, MIT that enables participants to tackle pressing problems hands on by working in teams for the duration of 5 days.
Students have an opportunity to have hands-on experience in project building through the process of problem identification, storyboarding, ideating, brainstorming, prototyping & product development as a unique solution to the theme of their domain. The themes being: 1. Social Empowerment Through Music Let your inner voice out as you address the social issues around through strong lyrics sending a powerful message across. 2. Fintech For Social Good Make it easy for the common man to understand taxes. Bring in technology solutions to financial & economic problems cutting across the nation,
3. Re-Imagining Education Reimagine design enabled solutions to the problems & challenges that you identified in the Indian Education System. 4. Mobility Experiment with the ways you travel across. Let your creativity bring out new solutions for long-pressing transport & movement problems. 5. Healthcare Let your passion for medical blend with design, engineering & social justice to create long term tech-enabled solutions.
6. Community Based Health Solutions Bring in a change by identifying community healthcare problems & intervene through design solutions as diagnostic device & medications for patients. 7. Investigation & Journalism: Telling Tangible Tales Share a strong perspective with a strong artefact depicting investigative journalism & reflective ethnography by interviewing, data collection & photo documentation. 8. Housing & Energy Make way to conserve energy & save ourselves from burgeoning slums resulting from rapid urbanization. An initiative that could reinvent the way we live!
9. Environmental Resilience Let us intervene where it need be! Intervening in the rising temperatures to save the planet through proper urban planning & preventing creation of heat islands via design & technology. 10. Public Spaces Bring in small scale design interventions for better utilization & beautification of public spaces along with addressing the safety aspects. The idea is drawn from past work of fellow MITs as MIT Tata Center For Technology & Design, MIT Media Lab India Initiative, MIT Connected Learning India Initiative, MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives, MIT D-Lab India & MIT J-PalSouth Asia Group. The lead is being taken by the founder & head of MIT India Initiative, Piyush. Passionate about developing design & tech solutions, Piyush aims to bring in the culture of social innovation, application-driven education system & skill-based learning through The Social Innovation Workshop.
