It started with the mediation offered by the US President, Donald Trump to resolve the Kashmir crisis. The stance taken by the Indian government is standing by the policy of NAM wherein no 3rd party can interfere in the internal affairs of the Indian State. It is making efforts to deal with the panic situation on the ground. Here are eight facts you need to know about the situation in Kashmir:
Accession To India
Jammu & Kashmir acceded to India under the Government Of India Act 1935 with the signing of the Instrument Of Accession. The matter was taken to the UN in order to avoid war like situation & Pakistan agreeing not to interfere in the internal matters of J&K but a series of resolutions remained unfulfilled by Pakistan.
Withholding The Plebiscite
To avoid the 2nd division on religious grounds & to maintain the integrity of India, the referendum was avoided, though Pakistan ceding a part of the state to China in 1963 & non Kashmiris started residing in the POK.
The State Shall Be A Part Of India
The Constitution of J&K states it to be an integral part of the Union of India reiterated by a democratic consultation process with the residents of J&K. But the tensions escalated with declaration of the 1965 war & the 1971 war ending with Simla agreement to resolve the issues peacefully
Question Of Sponsored Terrorism
India took a stance of Pakistan vacating the part illegally occupied & PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee visiting Pakistan to build more trust & confidence but failed due to LOC. Groups like LeT, Al Quaeda amongst others have been sponsored by Pakistan terrorising the population & hindering political dialogue.
The Socio Economic Divide
A number of refugees from West Pakistan & PoK have entered the valley illegally residing as refugees. The insurgency has made the population devoid of any industrial & socio-economic development thus pushing them into poverty with an only option of joining terror groups.
After the news of Pakistani Border Action Team planning an attack across the LoC, Indian troops took a stand thus killing 5-7 intruders in the Kera sector. Following which the deployment of army personnel has been increased with the imposition of Section 144 of CrPC making the Amarnath Yatri return to their homes.
Housearrest Of The Leaders
The chief leaders as Omar Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah & Mehbooba Mufti were put under house arrest along with shutting all internet connectivity to curb insurgency & spread of any rumors.
Scrapping Of Article 370 & Article 35A
In a bid to protect the integrity & fraternity of the nation & resolve the situation in President ruled State, the Union Minister Of Home Affairs, Mr. Amit Shah has taken a historic stand to put an end to autonomy & special status of J&K thus paving the way for a resolution of the J&K crisis.
